Part Two: The Calendar

While it has fallen into disuse, replaced by the modern Gregorian calendar, there is a traditional Cherokee calendar. In fact, it is 22 overlapping calendars. While it is clearly a descendant of the calendars that were used by the Mayan, Aztec, and perhaps Olmec peoples of Central America, it differences from these reveal the 'otherness' of Cherokee culture and thought.

Called in Cherokee the "Sun-Moon Count," it combines astronomical observations with cycles that have no apparent correlation to anything in this physical world.

One of the shortest cycles is a 260-day calendar. Your birth date in this calendar, which theoretically duplicates your conception date, shows the role you are to play in this life, and your relation to each of the other 259 roles.

If you have ever felt that there aren't enough hours in the day, you're right. The Calendar teaches is that the rate of change is accelerating by a factor of twenty. In other words, there will be twenty times more change, both good and bad, in 2008 than there was in 2007. In the final months of 2012, change will accelerate to such a degree that time as we know it becomes meaningless. But then IT happens, whatever IT is, and the clock is re-set.

Part Three: The Prophecies

There is a chain of prophecies which start before 1492, and which extend to 2012 and beyond.

Cherokee cosmology is a series of catastrophic destruction and near-extinction events, with the human survivors building the "world."
